I Was 100% Sure I Would Never Go To A Soulcycle Class

SoulCycle Miami

Up until almost two weeks ago, I was 100% sure I would never go to a Soulcycle class because I was scared I would be pressured; I was scared I wouldn’t last and I was embarrassed of my unfit physique. I would never guess I would last the 45-minutes, but I did. I would also never guess that everyone in my Soulcycle class would be so supportive and encouraging, but they were. That’s a lot of guessing of why not and why yes. In a strange way, Soulcycle became my sanctuary and it left me shocked that 45-minutes had already passed.

I mean, shit. This turned out to be some free therapy and Tony Robinson situation going on. And I mean, honestly, what gives? “It’s just cycling on a bike with music and other people,” right? Tony Robinson, their senior master instructor, I mean, Stacey Griffith, their senior master instructor, really shut my pessimistic Glossier tinted lips down. I was cycling for my life– literally. What I thought would be a fantastic way to kick-off my lazyass into shape, ended up being a free therapy session with a splaaaaaaash of exercise. At least it felt like a splash because after that Dua Lipa song came on I was like, “what soreness on my butt????” I say, “butt,” because I have an ethnic booty and the seats were fit for my lovely Caucasian brothers and sisters (no tea, no shade) because you could be Jennifer Lopez or Kim Kardashian and the seat may make your behind cleave sore, but nevertheless she persisted.

By the way, it was completely at my own pace. No one pressured me to push myself harder than I could and I appreciated that. In fact, they advised to do what I could. With Griffith’s motivational speeches throughout the session, I outperformed. Whether I was amongst seasoned cyclers or first-timers, I couldn’t tell on account that us newbies weren’t made to feel less. But damn! Rebecca, up on the stage as our cycling guide, is goals and not in the sense of body-shaming oneself to look like her, but to aspire to have her energy and to own at least a fraction of the dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins that were clearly contributing to her glow (ok maybe it was the most beautiful iridescent sweat since Twilight’s Edward Cullen) and the happiness across her face.

Because ultimately, if you want to simply workout, for sure, stick to the gym. But if you want cycle for your soul –think about that for a second; to FEED YOUR SOUL– then you must Soulcycle. If you have depression, come. If you have low-confidence, come. If you’re lethargic, come. If you’re lonely and want to meet some inspiring and kind people IRL (in real life), come whether to their new location at the new Wynn Plaza in Las Vegas or at any of their 88 locations in the USA and Canada combined.  I was 100% sure I would never go to a Soulcycle class and now I’m 100% sure I can’t fucking wait for the next one.
