We’ll also be giving you insider tips that are actually useful like what to avoid, alternative options and routes. You’re welcome! Here’s our first “A Very CARRA Guide to Doing” featuring Reno and its surprisingly affordable wellness retreat capabilities.
I’m impressed.
Unlike Reno’s wild sister who never seems to outgrow her party phase, Reno is one of those cities that has the potential to become a wellness spot. Reno, Nevada is on centered, focused, living her best life, and hashtag adulting personal journey. Dare I say, include it in your Vegas plans slash affordable wellness retreat travel plans. Between the abundance of serenity flooding from its escaping surroundings and the one-stop-shop resort that makes it hard to leave, even Las Vegas locals will start consider taking the 45-minute flight to decompress.
How To Get Around: 🚲 Bike, Hoverboard, & 🚗 Car
This is an affordable wellness retreat guide, which means no driving stress, please. Reno is kind-of-a small city, so rates are fair. You can rent a car if you’d like or a ridesharing serving, but consider renting a bike too throwing it in the trunk if you’re contemplating exploring Downtown Reno.
Where To Stay 🛎: Grand Sierra Resort
Setting the tone of your trip begins with a suite and VIP check-in at the Grand Sierra Resort, so book a suite. They have a private lounge with wine and coffee for guests who book suites, are certain card level members, and convention guests. I’ll tell you now VIP check-in is a very small luxury that’s 100,000% worth it. There’s nothing like arriving to an exclusive check-in, away from the crowds. Sign up for the Grand Sierra Resorts’ Club Grand program while you’re there, too, because they have a ton of perks.
TIP: Update** VIP check-in
How To Relax 💆: Spa at Grand Sierra Resort
Because sightseeing tends to be a top priority for travelers, spas usually are pushed to the side. But, again, this is a wellness retreat, so a spa service is mandatory. Even if you’re just getting a manicure. Schedule. That. Appointment. Suppose you’re staying at the Grand Sierra Resort, their spa (literally called Spa) offers a high-end mani and pedi parlor, facials services, and massage packages. If you purchase the day pass for only $50 (!!!) you can access the steam room infused with Eucalyptus aroma oil, dry saunas, jacuzzis, co-ed jacuzzis, and a walk around in your robe which was a highlight for me. I was relaxing in their lounge after the pool reading magazines and drinking wine.
TIP: If you’re getting a massage or experiencing an water-related activities, you’re likely to experience fatigue after. I was really tired after and sleepy. Drink a ton of water. Head back to your room, order room service, watch a movie, and sleep. Tomorrow will be another day.
Where To 🧘 Center Yourself: Mount Rose Trail
Nature is the source of all things. When you’re out of whack, spending time in Reno’s jaw dropping nature with realign you for sure.
TIP: Mt. Rose Trail is up to the rim with snow even in the summer. Pack athleisure wear, snow boots, sunglasses, sunblock, chapstick with SPF, lunch, water, and a backpack in your suitcase. Pack your backpack with everything but your athleisure wear, snow boots, and sunglasses.
I also recommend you ask Grand Sierra Resort (if you’re staying with them) to connect you with a snowshoeing service with a guide available. I had never gone snowshoeing in my LIFE and 100% enjoyed the excursion. Coming from a curvy city girl with zero interest athletic excursions. Having a guided tour gave me a different perspective and it really made the trip for me. It’s a whole vibe. My guide (Eric) made me realize so many things about the human relationship to nature and taught me many things that I didn’t know before about Reno’s Native tribe history.
Where To Have A Chic 🍽 Dinner: Charlie Palmer Steak
My experience at Charlie Palmer Steak made me have a newfound respect for side dishes. I never quite understood why anyone would order sides after ordering a whole meal. I semi still feel the same, but it’s a game changer when you’re at a steakhouse. Their savory mac-n-cheese is up there with the best I’ve ever had. It pairs extremely well with their succulent ribeye.
TIP: Some of you may not want to eat meat on this trip, so I recommend Cancun at the Grand Sierra Resort and their INCREDIBLE “Yucatan Pescado” which is literally the most authentic tasting and looking dish I had on my trip. It is an achiote marinade white fish roasted in banana leaf with pineapple, charred orange, sweet plantains, and habanero pico de gallo on the side. I’m not a fan of spicy food so I substituted for their house-made, side-table served guacamole
What To 📸 Upload To Instagram
Definitely the historic Reno sign.
TIP: Take a night shot and a day shot of the sign, so you can choose which version fits your feed best.
What To Make ⌛ Time For: Your Mind & Soul
Make time for yourself to journal, meditate, and daydream. City life is fast-paced and retreat life reminds you to slow-down and reconnect with yourself. To rediscover your wants, needs, and to redefine what happiness means to you.
TIP: Track how you arrived feeling and thinking and track how you’re leaving. Wellness retreats are meant to be traveled with intention.
