Allegedly hung by a scarf, American fashion designer icon Kate Spade was found dead inside her Manhattan apartment Tuesday morning, June 5 according to officials. Her death has shocked many.
“My grandmother gave me my first Kate Spade bag when I was in college. I still have it. Holding Kate’s family, friends and loved ones in my heart,” Chelsea Clinton said in a tweet.
Officials stated the late great American designer appeared to have hung herself with a scarf insided her Park Avenue apartment at about 10:20 a.m. She was found by her housekeper. Spade left a note in her apartment, an official said, telling her daughter the cause of Spade’s decision to comit suicide was not her daughter’s fault.
The 55-year-old designer rose to fame in the early 1990s with a collection of handbags and shoes that would soon separate Kate Spade from the rest of the world. She severed all ties from her beloved namesake brand 19-years ago in 2007.
In 2016, she returned to fashion launching another shoes and handbag brand known as Frances Valentine.
Spade leaves behind a 13-year-old and her husband Andy Spade who was her business partner and brother of actor David Spade. They met as college students during their studies at Arizona State University where she graduated with a journalism degree. Neither her daughter or husband were home at the time of the incident, an official said. Kate Spade was born Katherine Noel Brosnahan in Kansas City.
