But first a history lesson on Golden Week, the Chinese holiday, before we get to the fancy peking duck.
See, Golden Week starts on what’s called National Day which is October 1st because it was October 1, 1949 when the forming of the People’s Republic of China was established during the later years of the Chinese Civil War and the Kuomintang retreat to Taiwan.
Golden Week is observed on the first of October and celebrated for an additional six days by the people of China (and those who celebrate around the world) with festivals and concerts nationwide, and hearty opulent meals in Hakkasan’s case.
The internationally acclaimed Cantonese restaurant –two of their London locations have Michelin stars and their Las Vegas location has a shiny Forbes plack securely mounted on your way into the main dining room– honors the heritage of the people whose cuisine has won them such accolades with a proper golden touch: Golden Week menu.
The four-course menu includes gold-related ingredients on items like their “Golden Opulence” cocktail made with Beluga Gold Line Beluga Gold Line vodka, Taittinger Brut Champagne, Joto yuzu sake and rock melon syrup garnished with gold dust.
Their Golden Hakka Dim Sum platter, which includes the “har gau” staple otherwise known as traditional Cantonese shrimp dumplings in a delicate and translucent wrapper, Chinese chive and chicken and pak choi (a type of Chinese cabbage) dumplings.
Now– about that Golden Peking Duck. Hakkasan reimagines its beloved signature dish served two ways. The first? With spring pancakes, cucumbers and scallions and topped with Golden Osetra, a rare variety of caviar that adds an exquisite burst of brine to the dish. The second? The remaining duck is stir-fried with your choice of umami-packed XO sauce or aromatic black bean sauce.
Hakkasan is creative with their desserts (fwd: pig shaped macarons) and for Golden Week, the master of sweet created the Golden Ring, which is described to be a gorgeous dessert for sore eyes made with black tea, yuzu pears, a ginger infusion and dulcey cream.
Golden Week is a celebration, after all, so the people at Hakkasan have included the option for you to enjoy a bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal for only $888 including the Golden Week menu, which by the way feeds four people, is originally only $388 without Cristal.
