Rumor has it that some people have mixed opinions when it comes to Spiegelworld productions’ ABSINTHE.
But on Monday, May 7, they celebrated their 7th anniversary at Caesars Palace, so clearly they’re doing something right.
Some people get it, and some people don’t have an opened mind or a sense of humor, or a fraction of historical knowledge behind the type of entertainment ABSINTHE, and its sister show OPIUM at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, is.
When things are different, for some reason, people’s natural reaction is to say “I don’t get it, so I don’t like it.” Well, it’s too bad that those people can’t appreciate late 19th-century and early 20th-century entertainment– it’s a rarity and a treat. What other types of entertainment can you experience vaudeville? As in freak shows, comedy, eccentric characters, audacious narratives, burlesque, and cabaret?
Spiegeltent-type-of-shows once ruled the entertainment world. They were fresh, shiny, mysterious, and daring. What took place inside these tents, made of wood and dressed in canvas, was for the eyes of the beholder only. When people finally quenched their curiosity with a ticket purchase inside spiegeltents, they were won over, and their popularity grew. Some shows even traveled the world with their acts as a result.
For seven years in Las Vegas, ABSINTHE has captivated its audiences providing the same flair, allure, and creativity. It’s honestly a magnificent production to witness considering its a type of entertainment that was created way before the people behind this show were ever born. In a time where everyone seems to be walking with a chip on their shoulder, thank God for Spiegelworld.
ABSINTHE continues to reign as golden age entertainment amongst a contemporary world. And actually, haters, ABSINTHE is doing so well that Clark County named a street after the show…and gave them a key to the city.
Keep your “mixed opinions.” They don’t need them.
