Las Vegas And The World Reacts to Roe Vs. Wade

Roe V. Wade, AP News Supreme Court Protest

On June 24th, the Supreme Court voted 6-3 to overturn Roe v. Wade. The 1973 ruling established abortion as a constitutional right. Almost half of the U.S. are expected to outlaw or restrict access to abortion.

As the world continues to be met with anger, frustration, and horror. A statement by the Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge said, “The Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe v. Wade today and restricted access for millions of Americans. Adding, “With approximately 33,000 working women who are Culinary Union members, our union is proudly comprised of a majority of women. Reproductive rights and abortion access are worker rights. The Culinary Union stands firmly against unjust attacks against working people, our civil rights, on abortion and the right to choose, and policies which limit our health care access.”

Pappageorge continued, “The right to a safe abortion remains legal in Nevada because Democrats, whom Culinary Union members have helped elect, have protected Nevadans right to choose. Voting has real consequences, but also opportunities. This November, our rights will be on the ballot, and the Culinary Union calls on voters to show up in force and vote to elect political candidates who will stand for abortion and the right to choose, economic justice, and who will fight to protect working families. We will continue to organize.”

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak joined Planned Parenthood and reproductive rights advocates at the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas saying, “The Supreme Court’s decision will jeopardize the lives and well-being of millions of Americans. Abortion is a fundamental human right, and needs to be safe and accessible,” said Governor Sisolak. “I want to reassure all women and those seeking reproductive healthcare in Nevada – As long as I’m Governor, we will fight to protect your reproductive freedom.”
