The resurgence of Snapchat is not a coincidence. A strategic plan was set in place by the platform to keep up with the likes of TikTok and Twitter. Seeing these changes occur in the world of social media in the last few years made those at Snapchat take notice and rebranded the platform for influencers.
Back in November of 2020, Cam Casey, 19, was a TikTok influencer with over seven million fans on the platform. Staying home, he decided to post a video onto his Snapchat of a science experiment, which saw a Coca-Cola bottle exploding.
Within two weeks, Snapchat had contacted Casey. Becoming a large performing influencer on the platform already, he was on track to make hundreds of thousands of dollars. All of this success came from curiosity on Casey’s part about a new feature called Spotlight on the platform, which resembles the likes of TikTok.
This curiosity quickly turned into a profitable career for the teenager. By January of this year, Casey had earned nearly $3 million from Snapchat for his viral videos.
Casey was one of the early influencers to utilize the new Snapchat feature “Spotlight”. He is now a part of the group of other famous TikTok influencers to utilize the platform. Everyday non-influencer users can also participate and earn as well.
With many ways to monetize content, such as brand partnerships, e-books, and sponsored ads, influencers are able to generate income on multiple platforms.
As more influencers gain success and fame, content creators are seeking new opportunities that the new Spotlight Snapchat feature is now willing to provide.
