Freddie Mercury’s Revival Triggers 80s Nostalgia At Legends In Concert

The revival of the 80s in pop culture today has made it impossible to ignore the reflex of wanting to participate in all things 80s-related from scrunchies and oversized jean jackets to watching shows taking place in the 80s like “Stranger Things” on Netflix. Let’s not forget the music, too.

“Legends In Concert” at the Tropicana Las Vegas hotel, falls into that same nostalgic vortex.

Frankie Moreno, the longest living legendary Las Vegas drag performer, set the tone of the show with his return to the stage as Joan Rivers. Followed by his culturally relevant comedic bits on transphobia and President Donald Trump, it was showtime.

Pat Benatar and Freddie Mercury made their debuts as did those from decades in the 50s and 2000s like Elvis Presley and Lady Gaga.

But, what made “Legends In Concert” incredibly entertaining to witness was seeing those grownup 80s teens in the auditorium rocking out to songs like “We Will Rock You” and equally their millennial children who were happy to recognize songs from the film “Bohemian Rhapsody”, chronicling the life of Freddie Mercury and Queen alike.

Truly remarkable thing to witness and be part of an audience that was reliving joyous memories from their youth conjured by songs performed.

And they weren’t just covers basically performed. The impersonating artists embodied these icons with much vigour, gusto, and presence so much you’d think this is what it would look and feel like to see the real deal; the resemblances are uncanny, too.

Why should you buy tickets to see impersonators rather than the real deal? I think the answer is simple: Most of these icons you’d never see perform in one sitting but how fun is it to imagine that you could get such a concert like that? Think about “Legends In Concert” almost like a fantasy football draft. Who would be your fantasy headliners?

I will say that a “Legends In Concert: 80s Tribute” is something I hope they consider. I see that in the cards for them based on the reaction by their audience.
