A star was born at the Billboard Awards Sunday, May 20 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Did you feel that? Before the night’s performance, Normani was known to everyone that knew her as the girl from Fifth Harmony but her performance with Khalid proved she’s ready to shine all on her own.
Powerful shimmy-shake, hip down low, strut to the tune, hair flip, twirl, drop, snap! Normani pushed the future icon in her forward during her performance of “Love Lies” and there she was.

We’ve seen some of the world’s highly-acclaimed girl groups come and go. We’ve also seen their standout artists transform themselves out from their groups and into the icons we know today (i.e. Beyonce, Diana Ross you get the picture) and Normani is proving to be no different.
Whether Normani consciously decided to nominate herself for an artist to watch nomination or not, she’s officially done so at the Billboard Awards. She delivered a “put down what you’re doing and watch this girl DELIVER” performance. Normani quickly became one of the most talked about entertainers of the night illustrated by the Worldwide Trends on Twitter that she ranked high in.
Here’s hoping her management gets her into the studio and opening for someone because if this is the new Normani after Fifth Harmony, we’re desperately left wanting more of her talent, voice, poise, and dedication on stage.
