Before we dive in, I think it’s imperative that you know I’m a fan of tragos fuertes (translation: stiff drinks).
After champagne, bourbon infused cocktails are my go-to’s. It’s not just because of my taste buds, but something about having an Old Fashioned makes me feel a little wilder than usual. It gives me that edge that I liken to the bad boy of Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore.
And while all of Trago Lounge’s cocktails were delicious, especially their “Blueberry Lemon Drop” and “G&T” (pictured below), I’m telling you to order the “Agua Fresca”. A recommendation by way of its enthusiastic fan Yvonne –Trago Lounge’s own cocktail waitress– that did not disappoint.
“What is the craze behind the reputation of this elixir,” I thought. One must taste in the name of research.
Through taste and perspective, I found that this cocktail is not just any cocktail. It tells a story. It’s refreshing, sure, but it’s inventive– a testament to Trago Lounge’s audaciousness to stand out in the tropics.
Let their new general manager Rob Marino, an industry heavyweight champ having previously managed high-profiled properties like Wet Republic Ultra Pool, Social House, Searsucker, tell it and Trago Lounge is bringing enough elegance with a social ambient that includes a live DJ playing music at a reasonable sound level that businessmen and women, hotel guests, and locals alike can enjoy.
But back to “Agua Fresca”. It is made with Ketel One Botanical Cucumber & Mint, St. Germain Elderflower, fresh lime, kiwi purée, and Fever-Tree Indian Tonic. It’s that bliss point between, not sweet, but glacé and just boozy enough to feel the kick.
Trago Lounge opened March 2019 and something tells me that this unexpectedly alluring cheeky lounge, by way of Tropicana’s unlikeness style, will become a contender as a best kept secret on the Las Vegas Strip for excellent cocktails and weekly specials like $10 featuring Johnnie Walker Blue Label (1 ounce pour) during their Monday Blues.
Plus, their Maker’s Tuesdays featuring $6 Maker’s Mark cocktails, impressive collection of private label Scotches, and (get ready for this) Dom Perignon bottles for $105, available every Friday and Saturday.
Now, if only they start serving tacos with “Agua Frescas” every Tuesday for Taco Tuesday, well….
